I think a ‘superhero’ is sort of misconstrued in society. It’s not someone who can fly or has incredible strength, not someone who is physically or mentally dominant. I think being superheroic is just being good. Being better. Every day.
I think my advice to be better - and don’t listen to me, like, take things that I’m saying but I’m just like you. I’m just trying to be good - trying to be better every day. So my advice to do that is […] just to do that.
I think that that’s the great thing about being human […] We’re built to be good and to strive for that.

I think part of it is to show the difference between Damon and Stefan. Damon was told no repeatedly and never gave up or stopped pursuing. Damon never tried to find someone else to love. Stefan on the other hand, as difficult as it might be will try and move on because it’s the healthy or right thing to do despite still being in love with Elena. But it’s clear that she’s moved on and so it’s clear to him that he at least needs to try which is more than Damon can do. However, just because we see Stefan trying to move on and find love somewhere else doesn’t mean he’ll succeed. I’m sure that’s the other part of all this. I bet we’ll end up seeing that Stefan cannot truly move on, or be over Elena or find someone else he can love the way he loved her or be loved back in the way she loved him. But in the meantime, it might stir some things up with Elena which will play another part.
